Sherry Sylar is currently serving as Acting Principal of the New York Philharmonic, having performed the role of Associate Principal Oboe for thirty-four years. Besides being regularly featured as a solo artist with the NYP, she has played principal with the Boston Symphony, Chicago Symphony, St. Louis Orchestra, and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France.
As one of eight NY Philharmonic musicians chosen to perform in an international orchestra led by Leonard Bernstein, Ms. Sylar represented the United States during the 1989 Christmas season at the Berlin Celebration Concerts celebrating the dismantling of the Berlin Wall.
Ms. Sylar is a lecturer at The New School’s Mannes College of Music and provides master classes throughout the U.S. and the world.
This year, Ms. Sylar is sponsored by the Howarth Oboe Company and will be performing on a Howarth LXV model Cocobolo oboe during the Tampa Convention.
