Sarah Roper is Principal Oboe of the Real Orquestra Sinfonica de Sevilla, Spain, since 1996. Born in New Zealand, she studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London (George Caird and Celia Nicklin) and at the Staatliche Hochschule fur Musik, Karlsruhe (Thomas Indermühle). In 2008 – 2009 she was Associate Principal Oboe, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, NZ and in 1995 – 1996 was Associate Principal Oboe, Orquestra Ciudad de Granada, Spain. She has been Guest Principal Oboe with orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Halle and Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Sarah is regularly invited to perform as soloist, to give masterclasses and to take part in competition juries, both nationally and internationally. CD with Cuarteto Emispherio (“Quartets for oboe and strings”, 2015) and digital track of the “Fantasy for oboe” by Malcom Arnold (2017) with Oboe Classics. Since Jan 2018, First Vice President of IDRS and since November 2018, President of AFOES. Sarah is Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and plays a Howarth of London LXV oboe.
