Sarah Bates-Kennard is a freelance oboist based in Miami, Florida, and a Doctoral Candidate in Oboe Performance at Arizona State University. Sarah has served as the Principal Oboist of the Temple Symphony Orchestra in Texas and has appeared as guest oboist with groups such as the Phoenix Symphony, Austin Symphony, and the South Florida Symphony. She has been a guest artist at the Saarburg International Music Festival and School and has twice served as the Teaching Assistant for the Interlochen Summer High School Oboe Institute. She is a founding member of the Austin Baroque Orchestra, a period instrument group now in its eigth season, with whom she plays baroque oboe, classical oboe, recorder, shawm, and traverso. Sarah also holds a Master’s degree in Oboe Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and Bachelor of Music Education degree from Youngstown State University. Her primary oboe teachers were Martin Schuring and Rebecca Henderson.
