Kathleen McLean is Associate Professor at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Prior to this she was the Associate Principal Bassoon of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra for 17 years. She is a US Yamaha Performing Artist and is an active soloist, chamber musician and clinician throughout North America. She has premiered and recorded many new commissions written by Canadian composers such as Rodney Sharman, Jocelyn Morlock, Randolph Komorous, Howard Baer and most notably, Chiel Meijering who has written a large body of new concertos for bassoon between the period of 2017 – 2019. She has been a forming member of the Caliban Quartet of Bassoons, the Toronto Woodwind Quintet and a member of Canada’s premiere chamber ensemble, Octagon. Her orchestral experiences include Principal Bassoon with the World Orchestra for Peace under the baton of Valery Gergiev, Guest Principal with the London Symphony Orchestra (UK), Boston Symphony Orchestra, and National Arts Center Orchestra.
