Janet Grice is an improviser who plays jazz, classical and Brazilian styles on bassoon. She leads Vento Trio and plays in many NY-based ensembles. She performed internationally with artists such as Karl Berger, the STX Ensemble Xenakis, and Daisy Jopling, recorded for Music Minus One, Leroy Jenkins, Butch Morris, and produced 6 CDs of Brazilian and her original compositions. Degrees include a DMA from Rutgers University, masters from NYU and a bachelor’s from New England Conservatory, and awards from Fulbright for research in Brazil, NEA, USArtists International, and Surdna. Her bassoon teachers were Noel Devos, Brian Kershner and Stephen Maxym. She led workshops in Cuba and Brazil, and performed at the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition, Chamber Music America and IDRS conferences. She is on the faculty of the Hoff Barthelson Music School, and taught at the Festival de Música de Londrina (Brazil), Lincoln Center Education, Carnegie Hall and Fordham High School for the Arts in the Bronx.
