Galit Kaunitz is the Assistant Professor of Oboe at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she performs with Magnolia Reed Trio and Category 5 Wind Quintet, and plays Second Oboe and English Horn with the Meridian and Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestras. Her creative interests center around community and identity. She explores her Jewish, Indian, and German heritage through thematic recital programming and organizes concerts to collect food for the Eagle’s Nest, USM’s own food pantry. Along with bassoonist Jacqueline Wilson, Galit co-hosts the podcast Double Reed Dish, which promotes positive and inclusive culture within the double reed community. Galit is also an active chamber musician who has been invited to perform at recent International Double Reed Society and College Music Society conferences, the Avaloch Farm Music Institute, and a tour of Costa Rica as part of Centro Cultural’s Promising Artists of the 21st Century Program.
