Oboist Dr. Erin Gittelsohn performs throughout the South Florida area and instructs young musicians from the elementary through college level. After participating in the Juilliard School Pre-College Program studying with both Lois Wann and Linda Strommen, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music with Richard Killmer. She continued her education, receiving a Master of Music degree at the University of Maryland with Mark Hill and a Doctoral degree at the Catholic University of America with Carol Stephenson. Dr. Gittelsohn has served as principal oboist of the United States Air Force Band in Washington D.C. As soloist she performed the Strauss Oboe Concerto on a national tour and at the U.S. Capitol, and later with the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Gittelsohn has a passion for chamber music, cultivated during her service in the United States Air Force Tradewinds Quintet and Chamber Players Series, Shenandoah University faculty Van Buren Quartet, as well as the Worldwinds Ensemble at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. She has performed with the National Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Virginia Symphony, National Chamber Orchestra and Capitol City Opera. Locally she performs with the Florida Grand Opera, Orchestra Miami and Scherzo Trio. Dr. Gittelsohn is currently principal oboist in the Miami City Ballet Orchestra and the oboe instructor at Florida Atlantic University.
