Described as “a fearless player…as well as a musician with a keen sense of phrasing and color” (Gramaphone), Bassoonist Carolyn Beck is the Principal Bassoonist with the Redlands and San Bernadino Symphonies. Her performance of the Christopher James bassoon concerto was recently released on North/South Recordings and her solo CD “Beck and Call” is available on Crystal Records. A champion of new music, she has commissioned and performed many new solo and chamber works for bassoon. Recent solo performances include playing the concertos of Mozart with the Redlands Symphony, Joan Tower with the Pomona College Orchestra, and Christopher Hames (premiere) in New York City with North South Consonance. She was co-host of the 2013 International Double Reed Society conference in Redlands, California. Dr. Beck teaches at the University of Redlands, Pomona College, and the Idyllwild Arts Winter Academy.
