Dr. Angela Lickiss Aleo began playing the oboe at age 11. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from Middle Tennessee State University, a Master’s of Music in Oboe Performance from The Boston Conservatory, and a Doctor of Music in Oboe Performance and Pedagogy with a Secondary Area of Music History from the University of Iowa. Angela’s DMA thesis “The oboe and English horn works of Ross Edwards and his place in Australian music” came from a deep love of contemporary music and world music. Her teachers were Dewayne Pigg, Kyoko Hida, Mark Weiger, Humbert Lucarelli, and Andrew Parker. Her etude book “Expanding Your Toolbox: A guide to beginning contemporary techniques for Oboe”, is published by APAKA Music and available at www.apakamusic.com. Dr. Lickiss Aleo’s current projects are recording her etudes and several contemporary solo oboe pieces, and experimenting with reedmaking.
